Principal's Report

As we step into the cooler months, we are excited to share the latest updates and achievements from our school community. Last week, during our full school assembly, we celebrated students who displayed positive behaviour aligned with our school values. We also shared information about our cross-country carnivals, the school mainland trip, and had Kinder and Year 3-4B showcase their learning to the rest of the school. Congratulations to everyone who spoke at the assembly and those recognised for their efforts!

On our student-free day, Friday 6 June, staff will be participating in moderation sessions at either Sheffield School or Latrobe High School. Teachers moderate student work to ensure consistency, fairness, and accuracy in assessment. This also provides an opportunity for teachers to network with colleagues from other schools, share resources, and learn from one another, ultimately supporting student learning growth.

Currently, we are focusing heavily on our school priority of attendance. We are concerned about the number of students who are continually absent, especially those with unexplained absences, and we seek parent support in ensuring our young people attend school regularly. Regular attendance is essential for students to achieve quality life outcomes. Every day a student misses school can negatively impact their learning. We encourage strong partnerships between schools, parents, and the community and work collaboratively to address challenges related to school attendance. With an education, anything is possible. By attending school every day, your child will significantly increase their future opportunities. Let's work together to support our children's learning.

I would like to congratulate the students involved in our major fundraiser this term, The Colour Run. I am very impressed with the efforts made by our students and the support shown by parents, carers, and the wider community. As many of you may have heard, this week I was slimed by students as part of the event. Next week, I will participate in the MND Big Freeze, where I will encounter a lot of cold water and ice. I truly enjoy being a part of these events.

I hope you enjoy reading this edition and feel as proud as I do of the incredible dedication that defines Sheffield School. Thank you for your continued support and involvement in making our school a place of opportunity and growth.
