CROSS COUNTRY 2022

Secondary

Sheffield School held its annual Cross Country Carnival recently at the school farm.  The new course included running around the farm, circumnavigating the many paddocks and obstacles.  As in recent years, students had the opportunity to be “coloured” as they progressed around the course.

The first event of the day was the combined Year 7/8 race for both boys and girls.  Bridie continued her great work from HPE training and took out the Year 7 girl’s event.  Maddison battled hard with Mia to take second place with Lilly coming home fourth.   The Year 8 girls was a cracking affair with Hollie and Sharla being highly competitive throughout the duration of the event.  Hollie showed a little more endurance in the closing stages of the race to greet the finish line first, followed by Sharla and Fiona in third.

Year 7 boys saw Hudson come home in first position ahead of the fast-finishing Joe.  After some impressive performances in training, Jack picked up third position in a great performance.  The Year 8 boys event was a cliff hanger between Jack and Will though Jack powered away in the final stages to win the event.

Year 9 and 10 girls' events ran to script with Evlyn matching her brother's efforts and taking the finishing tape first in the Year 10 girls event. Isabelle and Ella battled hard for the minor positions on the track.  Sophie showed true grit with an impressive win in the Year 9 girls event.  Ava gave it her best effort and came home second with Nazareth third.

Eli proved unstoppable in the Year 9 boys race, he comfortably defeated Zavier, with Charlie taking the bronze medal position.  Year 10 boys saw Brady capitalise on his recent intense training and power home for the win.  Cody followed closely behind with Olava rounding out the top three.

The house results will be announced to students in the near future

Congratulations to all students who took up the challenge - completing the course and putting in their best effort.  The participation and behaviour of those on the course was first class. Well done everyone!

Primary

On Tuesday 31 May a cold but beautiful day greeted us for the annual K-6 Cross Country at Sheffield School.

The Year 5-6 students kicked off the day with their 2.5km cross country races which involved 2 laps of the 1.25km course around our school grounds. Along the way the Primary students had to tackle plenty of twists and turns in the course with a number of Hay Bales to jump over.

All 4 races were great races with Chloe from Don house too strong in the Year 5 girls race. In the Year 5 boys race, Wesley from Kentish and George from Roland could barely be separated the whole 2.5km but eventually Wesley prevailed. Jacob and Abigail both representing Don taking out the boys and girls Year 6 races comfortably.

After Recess time it was Kinders to Year 4 students turn to tackle the cross country.

A strong win to Imogen from Roland in the Year 1 girls was followed by a super exciting race between Oli from Kentish and Kayel from Don with Oli just doing enough to be victorious.

In our Year 2 events Harper from Don and Riley from Kentish showed too much strength for the rest winning the girls and boys races respectively.

Another two strong performances came from Benson representing Don and Shelby from Kentish to take out the Prep boys and girls races.

Our Kinder race was a real crowd pleaser with Sam from Roland showing he may be a little star in the future by winning the Kinder race very comfortably.

Max from Kentish was too classy in the Year 3 boys race and Quinn from Roland was perhaps our most impressive winner of the day showing too much strength and fitness taking out the Year 3 girls event.

Our final 2 races of the day were the Year 4 boys and girls with Tarrant and Fleur defending their titles from last year and winning the girls and boys races in impressive fashion.

A big thank you to the Year 9 and 10 students who helped out with checkpoints and results recording for our events and a special thank you to Evyln from Year 10 who arrived at school extra early to help Mr Penney with the set up of the courses.

A great day of cross country and everyone should be very proud of their efforts!

WORLDS GREATEST SHAVE

worlds greatest shave

Mission: To raise $3000 for cancer research.
Status: Mission accomplished!

Sheffield School students Chase and Toby, along with their scout mate Xeon, took part in the Worlds Greatest Shave on 23 April as part of a community service task to obtain their Grey Wolf peak award to move up from their cub pack to their scout troop.

With extremely generous donations from their family and friends, a Crazy Hair Day supported by Sheffield School and a Family Fun Day event organised by the Kentish Scout Group, the boys smashed out their goal and followed through by shaving their heads. While the boys heads may be cold, their hearts are very warm with gratitude toward all family, friends, students, teachers and community members who contributed toward their goal.

If you would like to take part in events like this, love adventure and team work, Kentish Scout Group are now taking enrolments from children aged 5. If you would like more information, please call:
