Principal’s Report

School Farm Re-development

Last week we received confirmation from the Minster for Education and Training, Mr Rockliff of a 3 million dollar injection of funds to redevelop the dated infrastructure at the school farm. Although a considerable amount of planning is still to occur before we see progress in this space, it is certainly an exciting development, with our end goal being a state of the art agricultural education and training facility that will hopefully service not only our school community but the region and possibly the state. I will continue to provide updates as they become available.

Cross Country

Yesterday we held our cross country event for years 5 - 10 at the school farm. It was a terrific day with many students participating and enjoying the run around the farm, completing courses ranging from 2.8km for year 5 and 6 students through to 3.4km for the secondary students.

Tomorrow we will hold our first K-4 cross country event, this will be held around the school grounds again across a range of distances.

In Physical Education this term students have been preparing for our cross country event, with staff coordinating lots of running/walking activities that have hopefully assisted students to build their stamina for the event.

A school wide cross country event is a great opportunity for our students to have fun, do their best and be active. Well done to all participants for their efforts and to all that contributed to the organisation and running of the events, particularly our HPE staff, Mr Penney, Mr Humphrey and Mrs van Tienen.

Student Achievements

Congratulations to Noah Hinrichsen who won a gold medal in the recent Tasmanian Open Karate Championships, an outstanding achievement! Well done Noah, looking forward to tracking your progress through the years, you have a great future in the sport.

I would also like to report that recently the North West Primary Athletics Team won the State Primary Athletics championship. Mackenzie Duraj was a member of that team and contributed significantly to the team’s success making the finals of the 100m and 200m events and being a part of the relay team that finished in 2nd place. Great effort Mackenzie.

Cambodia Fundraiser

The Cambodia Team are holding a fundraiser to help achieve their chosen goal of $5000 - this money will be donated to the Samrong Children’s Farm – the team are staying there for 4 nights. This is a farm where children of Cambodia live to be educated in not only English and Maths but also developing the skills in growing crops and livestock which will then be passed on to their families for future sustainability.

If you, or a family member, are fans of The Incredibles then grab a ticket or two, or three and join us on OPENING NIGHT for THE INCREDIBLES 2!

Tickets are available from both school offices.

Purchase an Entertainment Book from the Sheffield School Office (either book or digital version) for $65, part of the purchase price will be donated to the Cambodia Fundraiser.

Drama (Year 7)

In the year seven Drama taster this term the year sevens were given the opportunity to plan, write and perform their own small plays. They all did a fantastic job, creating vibrant characters and ensuring that they were dressed for the part.

Fruit Fly Biosecurity Information

The Sheffield School including the Railton campus, is within the formally declared Control Zone. A map and more detailed information for schools is attached.

What this means for Sheffield School:

Whole fruit grown in backyards within the control zone should not be taken from these sites, therefore this produce should not be taken to school. However, home grown fruit can be cut up into fruit salad and taken to school.

Fruit from outside the control zone can be bought to school but cannot be taken back outside this control zone.

Fruit disposal - there are bins provided at each sector of the school for disposal of all fruit and waste that comes onto site.

This will be double bagged and disposed of correctly.

School Canteen

Please do not send lunch orders without money as we do not offer credit at the school canteen. If your child does not have money in their lunch order or forgets their lunch, they need to speak to their teacher who may organise a sandwich for lunch.

In addition, once your child’s lunch has left the canteen, due to health regulations it cannot be returned and we cannot issue a refund. If your child goes home sick you are more than welcome to come to the canteen to collect your child’s lunch order.
