Principal’s Report
Mid-Year Reports
It is that time of the year again when staff have been working incredibly hard to provide you with an accurate picture of your child’s approach to learning, their progress and areas for further development during the second part of the year. Next Wednesday 27 June mid-year reports will be sent home with students.
I would encourage parents and students to attend 'Celebrations of Student Learning' sessions which will be held from Monday 2 July until Thursday 5 July. During these sessions students will share pieces of work they have selected and three way discussions (Student-Parent-Teacher) will be held. It will also be an opportunity to discuss your child’s report. Parent attendance at these celebrations is highly valued and parents are strongly encouraged to support these sessions.
This year we are again utilising an online booking system for Celebrations of Student Learning sessions, a set of instructions explaining how to make a booking will be included with yor child's report. Bookings can be made by following this link below, This will be available for bookings from next Monday, 25 June. If you do not have access to the internet you can call the school office on 6491 8222 and the office staff can do it for you. Please make appointments prior to the day of the Celebrations of Student Learning session.

We recognise that some parents may not be able to attend during the scheduled times/days, in these cases please phone the school office so an alternate arrangement can be made.
Attendance
As we approach the mid-way point of the year our school attendance sits at 90%. The front cover of the mid-year report provides further detail on your child’s attendance, the year group, and the school and state/sector average.
I cannot stress too highly, the importance of good attendance, more often than not there is a strong correlation between student achievement and attendance. The accompanying table demonstrates the amount of school that can be lost due to a casual approach to attendance.

Cambodia Global Volunteering 2018
Most of our school community would be aware that in October this year 6 students and 3 adults from the Sheffield School will be going to Cambodia to participate in a Global Volunteering Project. As mentioned in past newsletters the team have set a fundraising goal of $5000 which will be donated to the Samrong Children’s Farm, where the team will be staying for four nights. The support from the school and wider community in providing sponsorship and raising funds to date has been amazing. I would like to acknowledge the Kentish Lions Club and the Hub for their generous donations of $1200 and $6000 respectively, they are terrific organisations we are fortunate to have in our community that continue to provide great support to our school and the provision of opportunities such as this. I look forward to providing further updates on the Global Volunteering Project in future newsletters.
Staffing
We currently have a number of staff that have commenced a period of leave leading up to the term break; Miss McNab and Mrs Richardson started their leave last week with Mrs Eustace commencing leave next week. We wish them all a lovely break and look forward to their return in term 3. There will be some other staffing news which I will hopefully be able to share in our final newsletter for the term.

On Wednesday 14 June we took 37 enthusiastic Year 7-10 students to Hellyer College to participate in the Inter-high Cross Country event. This was a challenging 4km track for the 7-10 girls and 7/8 boys and 5km for the 9/10 boys. Students were luckily treated with perfect running conditions. Well done to all students on their efforts. There were lots of top 20 finishes in their respective age groups and especially Andy Enright for finishing 6th. Some of our stronger runners will be heading off to Symmons Plains to compete in the State all Schools Championships. Good luck to these students.

NWPSSA Cross Country Championships
On Wednesday 7 June a strong team of 35 of Sheffield’s finest young distance runners from Year 3-6 made the trip to Ulverstone Football Club for the North West Primary Schools Sports Association (NWPSSA) Cross Country Championships. The competition was strong with all age groups having over 150 competitors. It was a perfect day and location for running with a great course that took in Dinosaur Park after they left the football grounds, then it looped around and headed back to the football grounds. All students ran their best and put in a great performance.
A highlight of the day was Hollie Diprose and Paige Jenkins (Year 4) who finished 5th and 8th respectively.
Overall the students displayed great sportsmanship and proudly represented the school. The next step for some is competing at the upcoming Primary All Schools Cross Country Championships at Symmons Plains on Tuesday 26 June.
