Principal’s Report
Dear Parents,
Although a very busy time of the year, it is an enjoyable time where we will celebrate and acknowledge the achievements of many students over the coming weeks during a number of special assemblies, functions and activities. It is also a time where students are able to relax and reflect on the year and spend time socially with other students and staff at the various excursions and picnics that will be occurring.
Information regarding some of these special events / activities will have been distributed through students either within letters or the newsletter. In addition information will be posted on our facebook page and if you have the Schoolzine app on a device we will keep the calendar updated. If you require any additional information or are unsure of details pertaining to your student’s involvement in some of these events please contact the school office on 6491 8222 or speak with your child’s class teacher.
Staffing for 2018
I hope to be able to provide some clarity to our school community in regard to staffing for 2018 in our next newsletter, I would like to take this opportunity to wish Mrs Moore an enjoyable break, Mrs Moore commenced Long Service Leave at the end of last week, and will return at the commencement of 2018.
School Canteen
Recently our School Canteens were nominated for the 2017 School Canteen Awards, which in itself is a reflection of the terrific service being provided to our students and staff. Although not winning their respective categories both received a Tasmanian Schools Canteen Association (TSCA) Commendable Effort Award. Michelle Temple, our canteen manager at the Sheffield Campus, certainly puts in over and above the expectations of her role and we would like to thank her for her efforts and look forward to the continued fantastic service into the future. Our Railton Campus is a one day a week lunch canteen, fully supported by a group of volunteer parents, Alison Hicks, Lisa Lowery, Kristy Temple and Odyea Barker. We are extremely fortunate to have this dedicated group of parents who provide this service to the students at our Railton Campus. Congratulations and thank you for your contributions to our school!
Presentation Day Assembly
A reminder next Tuesday 12 December parents and community members are invited to attend our Presentation Day Assembly. The assembly will commence at 11.30 am in the Recreation and Related Arts Building.
Congratulations
Congratulations to Jordan Burr, Tony Temple, Catie Loane, Alannah East and Bethany Cobbin who have been selected to compete in the state finals for cattle handling and cattle judging events at the Circular Head Show. Well done on being selected and good luck on Saturday.

iPads
Year 7, 8 and 9 students who have hired a school iPad will need to return these to their home group teacher by Tuesday 19 December. The iPad, case and charger must be returned.
During the school holiday break the iPads will have their content erased and the software will be updated with a new profile ready for them to use again 2018. Please make sure there is a backup copy of any files you want to keep.
Railton Canteen
At Railton we are lucky to have a canteen that operates every Tuesday. This is completely run by a group of wonderful volunteers, who we would like to thank for all the work they do to ensure this service happens at our school. With some of our volunteers finishing this year (as their children move to the Sheffield Campus) we are looking forward to inviting new people to help in this area. It could be that you help out weekly or only every couple of weeks. If you can help out as a canteen volunteer in 2018 please see the office at Railton, Miss Pearce or Mrs Last.
We offer Breakfast Club every morning. This provides students with toast or a warm milo to give them energy for the day. We are able to offer this due to volunteers. If you are able to help out in 2018, either one day a week or fortnightly please contact us.
As with all volunteers at schools, you will require a Working with Vulnerable People Card. Staff at the office can assist you completing the online application if needed.
Railton Kindergarten 2018
We will be conducting our second orientation session at the Railton Campus, for those students who will be attending Kindergarten at Railton in 2018. These will be held in the Kindergarten/Prep room between 12.00-12.30pm on Thursday, 7 December. New students will have the opportunity to meet the current Kindergarten students and familiarise themselves with the environment.
On Thursday, 7 December parents will be invited to attend an Information Session about the start of Kindergarten. This will be held during LiL (11.30 - 12.00) and followed by the orientation session in the Kindergarten room. We look forward to seeing people at these sessions!
