Principal’s Report
Dear Parents
Thank you to all of the family and friends that supported our annual Primary Fair and Pet Parade today. Thank you to Mr Bakes and his team of staff, students and parents who contributed to the organisation and coordination of all of the activities and the variety of products and produce that were available for all to enjoy!
A reminder that tomorrow, Thursday 13 April is a Moderation Day (students do not attend). Staff from across schools within our region will meet to moderate work samples against the Australian Curriculum achievement standards, as well as engage in dialogue with colleagues focussing on strategies and pedagogies to advance student learning.
Term 2 will commence on Monday, 1 May 2017.
Staffing Term 2
There are a number of changes to staffing for term 2:
Mrs Tamieka Moles will be returning from maternity leave to take up her position on the Kinder class. We would like to thank Mrs Vos for her work on this class this term and welcome her to our Railton campus for the remainder of 2017, teaching the Prep class on the Wednesday and the 1/2 class on the Friday.
Mr Greg Hinrichsen will be returning from long service leave to teach the 5/6 class. We would like to thank Mr Williams for his contribution to the school and the 5/6 class’ learning this term, we wish him well in his new appointment at Ulverstone High School next term.
Science and Engineering Challenge
Last Friday the Sheffield School participated in the Science and Engineering Challenge conducted at Burnie across two days. This was the first time the school had entered this event with the school experiencing considerable success placing 3rd behind Marist College and Ulverstone High School.
Special mentions to: Artyom, Jarrod, Nathan and Emily for placing 1st in the catapult activity, and to Liam, Keiffer and Adam who placed 1st in Helter Skelter Shelter (Earthquake proof buildings).
Thank you to both Mr Voorwinde and Miss Dudley for providing this opportunity to our students, and to all of the students who participated and represented our school so well.
Updated ICT Policy Years 7-10
Our year 7-10 ICT Policy has recently undergone a review to bring this in line with the current and emerging technologies used in schools. The aim of the policy is to provide some clear guidelines to staff and students about acceptable use of ICTs to ensure learning is enhanced by technology and not interrupted by unnecessary use. The new policy will be published in our newsletter next term. One change that we will be adopting at the beginning of term 2 is that mobile phones/smartphones are not to be used, at all, during class time. Please reinforce this message with your child.
Student Leadership in our School
Recently we held our assemblies for this term, where we acknowledged and congratulated a number of groups of students that had been elected to take on leadership roles within our school community this year.
