Welcome to our final Newsletter for Term 2. It has been a productive term of learning and extra-curricular experiences for our students, and you can read about some of these in this newsletter.
We have reached the half way point in the year with student Reports and Evidence of Learning having gone home last week. This mid-year reporting stage provides an opportunity to review progress, gain some feedback, and refocus learning goals for next term. Thank you to parents who were able to attend parent teacher meetings this week. I know that teachers highly value the opportunity to talk with families, to share and gain insight about students.
STAFFING
Pauline Aylett has been a highly dedicated employee of our school for 28 years! Pauline has always maintained very high standards and taken pride in her work as a Facility Attendant, ensuring we create a clean, hygienic and safe environment for our learners. We thank you for your contribution to our school Pauline, and we wish you well with your new position at Deloraine High School, just a little closer to your home!
We have a number of teaching staff changes for term 3. Catherine Laughlin will be leaving us to take up a position as Quality Teaching Coach at Ulverstone Secondary College, we wish her well with this leadership opportunity. Katharine Bransden will be joining the leadership team in the 7-10 AST role for the remainder of the year. Russell O'Rourke will be taking LSL for the remainder of 2024, enjoy your trip abroad Mr O! Jessica Day will be joining our Early Childhood team and leading the Launch into Learning (LiL) programs at Sheffield and Railton. Thank you to Michelle Morley and Debbie May for your role in coordinating LiL for the first half of the year.
Welcome to Gill Brazendale, who works across a number of schools in the department's Aboriginal Education Team. Gill will be working with our school every second Wednesday. Gill will be supporting our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and helping us all to build our understanding of cultures and traditions within our whole school community.
ADMIN ATTENDANT AT EARLY CHILDHOOD
Next term we are going to trial an Admin allocation at the Early Childhood section of the school. We would like to make it easier for families attending this section, reducing the need to access the main office block that is quite a distance away from the ECE section with limited parking. This admin service will enable students and visitors to sign in and sign out at this site, meaning this can be a collection and drop off point for late arrivals and early departures. Steph McNab will be based in the ECE Office closest to the carpark where she will be able to support families, staff and students between 8:30 am and 3:00 pm. The main Administration Office will need to be used for any finance, enrolments, and uniform sales.
SPORTING ACHIEVEMENTS
Jack R will once again compete on the national stage representing Tasmania in the Under 16 boys Football Carnival in Queensland during the term break. Good luck, Jack!
Our high school netball teams will be playing finals this weekend, good luck!
Congratulations to our High School Girls Football Team for winning their Gala Day yesterday!

ALL SCHOOLS PRIMARY CROSS COUNTRY
A few weeks ago, primary students competed at the inter-primary cross country in Ulverstone. From here, students who finished within the top 50 were invited to compete at Symmons Plains All Schools Cross Country. This is a huge Tasmanian event with schools from all over the state competing.
Upon arrival, students were surprised at how many schools were running. Although very nervous, our students were excited and ready to race.

YEAR 6
In 2023, two enthusiastic Year 5 students, Maisie and Todd took the initiative to write a heartfelt letter to our Principal, Jamie Skirving, advocating for the introduction of Year 6 jumpers for the 2024 school year.
In their letter, they expressed the significance of having a distinctive jumper to foster a sense of pride, unity, and achievement among the Year 6 cohort. Their persuasive arguments and dedication to enhancing school spirit resonated with the principal and the school leadership team who were in support, and as a result, their proposal was successful.
After designing their jumpers, they were handed out in Week 7, just in time for our frosty cold weather here in Sheffield. The decision to implement Year 6 jumpers starting in 2024 marks a memorable milestone for the students.
TASMANIA SECONDARY ALL SCHOOLS STATE CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIP
On Thursday 13 June, Sheffield School's best cross country athletes made the trip to Symmons Plains Racecourse in Perth Tasmania to contest the Tasmanian Secondary All Schools Cross Country Championships.
Most of the team were on the bus ready for the long drive - but two members (Jack and Jett) were missing. After some quick phone calls we discovered Jack's Electric Scooter didn’t start and Jett (who was going to hitch a ride with him) was running late. We picked them both up enroute along with a Mountain bike. We got there just in time with the team keen to test themselves against the best in Tasmania.
The whole team gave their best and we are all proud of their efforts.

STUDENT WELLBEING & ENGAGEMENT SURVEY
The wellbeing of our students is important to us - we want to hear how students feel, and think, about different things going on in their lives.
Those in Year/s 4-12 at Sheffield School will be taking part in the Student Wellbeing and Engagement Survey. The results from this survey will help us get a picture of the current wellbeing of our students, and what we can do to improve future wellbeing for learning. The more students who take part, the clearer our picture will be.
The Student Wellbeing and Engagement Survey is part of the Department’s Child and Student Wellbeing Strategy .
The details for the survey are:
When: 26 August- 20 September
Who: 4-12
What do I need to do: You and your child don’t need to do anything. The survey will be done in class time and will not require your child to prepare in any way.
A letter with more information has been sent home with all Year 4-12 students, including Frequently Asked Questions and a form to sign and return to the school if you do not want your child to participate in the survey.
If you would like further information, please contact Mrs Davies (6491 8222).
