Term 2 has begun with a great vibe and lots of enthusiasm around the school.
MAKE EACH DAY COUNT
By showing up every day, your child has the best opportunity for a bright and fulfilling future. It gives them the chance to be with friends, learn new things and explore individual passions or interests. We have many additional activities and experiences planned for the term, in addition to regular classroom learning, to motivate and engage students in learning.
Good attendance habits can sometimes be hard to maintain, but by creating morning routines, you can set your child up for success for the rest of the year. If you’re looking for tips on how to create better attendance habits, visit the Anything can happen website
Please make contact with your child’s teacher if you believe we can work in partnership to assist your family with any school attendance issues.
ASSEMBLIES
Our Kinder-6 and years 7-12 assemblies will be a whole school assembly to be held twice a term on Wednesdays at 1:30pm in weeks 6 and 10 (see calendar for dates).
By having our youngest learners through to our most senior students together, we are promoting whole school connection. These gatherings will provide an opportunity to share the wide range of learning and extra-curricular activities that happen across our school, as well as celebrating the achievement of our students.
Railton will maintain their own assemblies at the Railton Campus. However, our Railton students will join us for major assemblies at the main campus such as Book Week Assembly in term 3 and end of year assemblies.
Parents and family members are always most welcome to attend. We know how proud students are when they have someone extra special in the audience, and from the school's perspective, it is always a pleasure to have our families in attendance.
COMMUNICATION
Our newsletter will be published three times a term, week 2, this edition, week 6 and week 10. Regular information is shared via our school Facebook page. For those who follow our FB page, some of what you have already viewed on FB will be published again in our newsletters (often in more detail) because we have many families and community members who prefer not to use social media.
WALK SAFELY TO SCHOOL
Over the years, our school crossing on Main Street has been used by thousands of students, and most drivers are courteous and aware of the requirement to stop and allow pedestrians to cross the road. However, there are always those who are less attentive or for whatever reason, do not stop. If your child walks to school without an adult, please have a reminder conversation with them about the safest walking and encourage them to use of the traffic controls on Main Street and Henry Street crossings. Most importantly, remind them to look out for traffic BEFORE they cross the road.

ANZAC DAY
On ANZAC Day we had a number of students represent our school at the Sheffield and Railton ANZAC Day services. Students attended the main proceedings at the Town Hall, before joining the march to the cenotaph where each sector of our school laid a wreath. We would like to thank all students who attended from both campuses, and for respecting, remembering, and honouring those who have sacrificed so much.
We would also like to congratulate Felicity and Caitlin who both won the RSL’s ANZAC Essay Competition. Felicity was up bright and early to read hers at the Dawn Service this morning, and Caitlin read hers at the mid-morning service at the Town Hall. Primary and Early Years winners for the ANZAC Day art competition were Savannah, Riley, Ella and Isabel, who all won $25. The ANZAC Day winners will receive their prize at our assembly on Wednesday 29 May.

DARTS CHAMPION
Toby has been taking the world of darts by storm recently with some very impressive personal performances.
At the end of last year, Toby was ranked number one for his age group after performing exceptionally well at the State Junior Championships. He then consolidated his standing with a performance in January that saw him finish second in the Australian Junior Mixed Doubles Competition. Then in February Toby went one better and tasted victory, finishing in top spot in the Emu Bay Mens Doubles Classic.
In addition to his competition successes, Toby was awarded the state “Rookie” of the Year Award.
Well done Toby on your excellent performances - we are all excited to see where this takes you in the future.

SECONDARY CROSS COUNTRY
The 2024 Sheffield School Cross Country Carnival will be conducted on Thursday 23 May. The carnival will be held at the school farm and will enable students to enjoy the most picturesque cross-country course on the North West Coast. Secondary students will begin their event from the new classrooms and will circumnavigate the perimeter of the farm for a distance of approximately 3.6 Kilometres.
The event provides the opportunity for athletes to display their best efforts whilst also encouraging walkers or joggers to participate. The H.P.E department has again included colour stations for those who wish to be coloured.
We urge all parents and carers to encourage their young people to make the most of this event and develop some lifelong memories of school life.
Event times are as follows:
Year 7/8 event 11:45AM
Year 9/10 event 1:45PM
THE GREEN TEAM
The Green Team are responsible for collecting food scraps after lunch to distribute between our compost and chickens at our Sheffield campus, as well as other animals on our school farm. They are also responsible for taking care of our 6 feathered friends, ensuring that their eggs are collected, and they have enough feed and water. The Green Team are excited to help organise our popular veggie and flower stalls in the months ahead.
DAILY PE LEADERS
Among this big group of leaders, are our wonderful Daily PE leaders. These 5/6 students work collaboratively with the Secondary SRC to plan their activities. This group organise equipment and implement daily 10 minute physical activities at the end of our school day. They are fantastic at encouraging participation.
HOUSE CAPTAINS
Roland, Kentish and Don houses are lead by these motivated primary leaders. These students are responsible for running our new house incentive system. They organise and motivate their house to follow our school values, assist and motivate their peers during sports events and most importantly encourage participation.
BREAKFAST CLUB HELPERS
Our dedicated Primary Breakfast Club Helpers! These 5/6 leaders help prepare, serve and clean up our weekly Breakfast Club program.
PRIMARY SRC MEMEBERS
Our SRC members wear orange ‘Student Representative’ vests when assisting with early years play ground duty.
VISION SCREENING WITH THE KENTISH LIONS CLUB
The Lions Eye Health Program took place across our Prep to Year 6 classes during week 2. Early detection is key in preventing or curing visual impairment, with approximately eighty percent of all cases being preventable or curable. Through these screenings, we aim to identify any potential issues early on so that appropriate measures can be taken to safeguard the vision of our students.
We are fortunate to have had trained members of the Kentish Lions Club complete vision screening with our Primary and Early Years students. 106 screens took place, and 20 students have had referrals sent home. If your child received a referral, and you would like to know more information, please do not hesitate to contact the school.
Pictured here are our wonderful screening team who are currently training members of Devonport Lions so they can complete school screening in their area! We are incredibly grateful for the unwavering support that our local community, particularly the Kentish Lions Club, provides to our school.
Yr 10 ROTARY YOUTH DRIVER AWARENESS PROGRAM
Year 10 students from the school will be attending the annual RYDA (Rotary Youth Driver Awareness) day at Camp Clayton on Wednesday 29 May. The event is organised and run by local Rotary clubs’ and utilises the skills and knowledge of members of the community and the club.
Topics covered included car safety and maintenance, braking distances and vehicle behaviour, risk taking and accident evaluation. Members of the police force and RACT facilitate the more extreme topics. Weather permitting, one session will be conducted outdoors, students are advised to bring an outdoor jacket.
